I was amazed at the cost of a cab ride from the airport to my hotel. It was only a 15 minute ride and cost me almost 90 US dollars.

Many business travelers are literally soaked by cab companies in a foreign destination. In many cases, the governments tend to keep a tight control on cab services out of airports in an effort to maintain a good standing with visiting travelers. However, not always the case and once in the city, there are cabs locals know to use, and there are cabs who focus strictly on foreigners. NOT knowing which one to use could prove to be quite costly.

Two times I had asked a hotel concierge at two different hotels to make a reservation at a restaurant to entertain business clients and (hopefully) conduct a little business in the process. In both cases, the noise was such that I was unable to utilize the event effectively for an effort to raise investment. It was a disaster in both cases.

A hotel concierge is holiday oriented, not business. they're more apt to recommend a popular restaurant. They wouldn't ask the purpose of the event in order to determine the best choice of a restaurant to help you achieve your objective.
